The Calangute police have arrested two Nepali nationals on charges of raping a Russian tourist.

According to the police, the 37-year-old, who arrived in Goa on Thursday and checked in at a resort in Calangute, was raped while she was in her room.

"The accused, employed as room boys raped the victim lady without her consent, thereby committing rape. We have arrested both the accused after receiving a complaint from the victim," an officer said.

Sources said the accused confessed to having committed the crime, after initially refusing their role in the case. "They were summoned to the police station for investigation. Initially, they denied that they raped the complainant but after sustained questioning, they broke down confessing their crime," the officer further stated.

Legal counsel for the Russian Consulate in Goa, Advocate Vikram Varma has hailed police's swift action in bringing the culprit to book.

However, I must mention that the brilliant work done by the Goa Police under the leadership of SP North Nidhin Valsan and PI Calangute Dattaguru Sawant has resulted in the cracking of this case in just a few hours. My sincere congratulations to the team," he said.
