The compound wall at the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) complex in Chicalim collapsed on Friday following incessant rains.
Speaking to media, Mormugao BJP Mandal President Sanjay Satardekar said the wall had collapsed due to the accumulated water.
"We have already begun work to clear the debris and we will also request authorities to immediately take up the work to build a new compound wall,” said Satardekar.
“There is always a lot of water on the ground and it needs to have a proper drainage system for the water to flow out. The ground is required by everyone and hence, proper drainage is needed and the compound wall needs to be rebuilt.”
“We also have a pre-primary school in the vicinity but fortunately, the government had declared a two-day holiday due to weather red-alert and the school was closed when the incident took place," said Satardekar.
Ligorio Monteiro said he had got a call about the compound wall collapse early Saturday morning and he got workers to clear the debris from the road using a JCB and trucks.
