The Mopa police arrested the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) employee, accused of raping and threatening a high school student.
The 42-year-old, employed as a ground man at SAG, was on the run since the registration of the offense.
Sources said the accused arrived at his residence on Friday morning just when the police team repeated their visit to his place to locate him.
“We arrested him and brought him to the police station,” an official said.
The 13-year-old had confided in her teacher about the crime after which the Principal informed her family and the police.
The accused is said to have taken the girl to Arambol and Morjim after developing a friendship with her; and thereafter sent obscene and threatening messages on her Instagram ID.
He is booked under sections 376 (rape), 363(kidnapping) and 354 (outraging modesty) of IPC, and relevant sections of the POCSO Act, Goa Children’s Act and IT Act.
The Mopa police have also booked the accused SAG employee for destruction of evidence, by adding section 201 (destruction of evidence) of IPC.
His mobile phone and car have been seized for investigation.
