A number of Salcete villages on Friday submitted the Coastal Zone Management Plans to the office of the Director, Environment and Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority, including the Ambelim panchayat which has submitted the plan under protest.
Cavelossim Sarpanch Denis Dias along with villagers submitted the CZMP to the Environment Director, Johnson Fernandes on Friday after preparing the plan with the help of experts and an agency. Denis informed that the plan was prepared with the help of two experts, who explained the people about the exercise and how to go about the same.
He further said the panchayat had engaged an expert agency to draw the plan with the help of a drone, adding that the agency has helped to map the exact location of the sand dunes dotting the village.
A delegation of Ambelim villagers comprising of former sarpanch Cruz Silva, besides Anthony D’Silva and others also submitted the village CZMP, but under protest. Cruz told the media that the panchayat submitted the plan under protest since the authorities had failed to provide the expertise and the experts to guide the villagers on how to go about with the work. Cruz further pointed out that the delegation has requested the authorities to extend the time for the submission of the final plan.
Meanwhile, the representatives of the Assolna panchayat have also requested the authorities to extend the last date for submission of the CZMP.
