epem, while the sub-inspector will now report to Sanguem. r“I have transferred the Salcete inspector and sub-inspector after it was brought to my notice that they took one week to lodge the FIR against the employees of the gas agency involved in the LPG gas pilferage. The FIR ought to have been lodged with the police immediately,” Civil Supplies Director Korjuenkar told The Goan. rWhile the alleged LPG pilferage took place on July 6, the Civil Supplies inspector, Salcete had lodged the FIR only after a week on July 12. rBased on the complaint, the Colva police had registered an offence against the suspects who are allegedly involved in transferring gas from domestic to commercial cylinders at Pedda-Benaulim. rThe Civil Supplies Department had lodged a complaint against four persons -- Jayesh, Rajkumar, Laxman and Kamal -- based on which the Colva police had booked the foursome under Sections 3 and 7 of Consumer Act. rIt may be recalled that the incident of LPG transfer from domestic to commercial cylinders was reported at Benaulim where some workers accompanying the vehicle were found transferring gas from domestic to commercial LPG cylinders. They were caught red-handed by the residents of Benaulim when the odour of gas had spread along the roadside in the process of transfer. rThis had aroused the suspicion of residents who later caught some of the suspects red-handed in this process. rrrSurprise raids to be conducted on delivery vans to check cylinder weightrThe Civil Supplies Director, Mahesh Korjuenkar told The Goan that the department has intensified surprise raids on LPG delivery vans to ensure that the weights of the cylinders tally with the prescribed standard and that the delivery men carry weighing machines on their persons. “After the Benaulim incident, our teams have intensified surprise checks on the delivery vans. I am aware that LPG cylinders are delivered at the doorsteps of consumers without weighing. The surprise checks will change the situation in the near future,” Korjuenkar said.
