A delegation of residents from Saligao led by social activist Mario Cordeiro met Electricity Department Assistant Engineer Anil Kumar at the Porvorim power sub-station and complained about problems due to frequent power disruptions in Saligao.

The residents told Kumar that frequent outages in power supply have become a regular feature these days, with power supply going off at least six-seven times in a day. They claimed that on account of frequent power disruptions, electrical appliances like refrigerators and air-conditioners would get damaged, while food in refrigerators would go bad.

Kumar explained to Saligao residents that the demand for power had sharply increased in the last two months, on account of which the electricity department had been forced to undertake load shedding in various areas. He informed that load shedding was not restricted to Saligao village alone, but was also being enforced in other villages of Saligao constituency.

Stating that the situation would improve with the arrival of monsoons, Kumar said the electricity department has already initiated steps to tide over the power problems being faced by Saligao residents.

“A tender has already been floated to replace old transformers and feeders as well as replace rail poles with concrete poles. Secondly, underground cable will be laid from Porvorim to Saligao. Once the existing Code of Conduct enforced due to elections gets over, the tenders will opened and contracts will be awarded. The work will be completed within two months,” said Anil Kumar.
