Government to pay `2.40 per unit, at least seven coastal villages to benefit

Of the 7,000 kilo watts of power generated per day, 4,000 units will be utilized for the plant and the remaining 3,000 units will be supplied to the government.
“Generation of power began from July last year. So far, we were using the power only to run the plant. On government’s initiative, we began supplying 3K units to the Saligao sub-station from Wednesday,” said Ganesh Kandeswamy, Director, Hindustan Waste Treatment
Pvt Ltd.
He said the supply will help to boost energy requirement of at least seven villages in the coastal belt.
The power exported to the government will, however, come at a price as the administration will have to pay for it. “As discussed,
the government will pay the company Rs 2.40 per unit for the power supply generated from the plant,” Kandeswamy said.
According to the company’s director, the credit for the development went to the new chief minister, who took the initiative of holding a joint meeting of the Electricity Department Board and the plant officials.
“On March 27, the chief minister gave a go-ahead for the proposal to export power and within 15 days we put the plan into action,”
he said.
He said the power generated from the plant was green renewal energy.
“The bio-gas that is produced from the municipal solid waste is converted into power,” he said.
Kandeswamy said officials of the electricity department, department of science & technology, GSIDC, etc, made a thorough inspection of all the installations at the plant before the transmission was executed.
