Around 22 villagers had filed a complaint with the Saligao panchayat accusing Vishwas Umbraskar of carrying out unauthorized construction and had also marked a copy of their complaint to the Flying Squad section of the north Goa collectorate.
Speaking to The Goan, Administrator of Saligao Panchayat Eknath Oroskar said he had acted on the complaint of villagers and had issued a stop-work order to Umbraskar on May 12.
“We have also sent a letter to the Block Development Office at Mapusa on May 31, seeking advice on the necessary course of action. The construction is illegal and the owner does posses any document regarding land-filling and construction
permission. He was requested to produce the documents, but failed to do the same,” said Oroskar.
Similarly, the office of the North Goa Collector’s Flying Squad Section issued a show-cause notice to Umbraskar for the illegal land-filling and construction and has directed the Saligao police inspector to keep a strict vigil so that no further land-filling activities are carried out by Umbraskar without obtaining prior permission from authorities concerned.
