Saligao waste plant before rains, says Parulekar
Commissions garbage shed at Reis Magos

Tourism Minister and Saligao MLA Dilip Parulekar on Saturday said work on the garbage treatment plant at Saligao plateau is nearing completion and the project is expected to be commissioned before this monsoon.
“It is the responsibility of the State to provide 100 tonnes of garbage per day to the plant and the electricity generated there will be bought by the State,” said Parulekar, while addressing a gathering after inaugurating a shed and composting pits for treatment of wet garbage at Reis Magos.
“Reis Magos deserves appreciation for taking the initiative to treat garbage on their own, instead of depending on others. If all panchayats in the State treat their garbage on their own by this method, the Swachh Bharat mission can be accomplished soon,” said Parulekar.
Reis Magos Sarpanch Kedar Naik stated that 500 kgs of garbage is generated per day in the panchayat area.
“We have constructed this shed and the 12 composting pits at a cost of Rs 4 lakh. The panchayat has also purchased a van for the collection of garbage at a cost of Rs 9 lakh. We will charge garbage fees equivalent to the house tax, towards the collection of door-to-door garbage,” said Naik.
