Several residents of Mahalaxmi Residency Colony at Upasnagar in Sancoale on Wednesday evening protested against the dumping of mud allegedly by Sancoale communidade on the road leading to around 150 houses in the area.

Several residents opposed the move and even informed the local panch about the issue, who later alerted the Verna police.

Some residents also informed Cortalim MLA Anton Vas, who was in Panaji at the time, but he rushed to the area to meet the irate residents to resolve the issue.

Vas spoke to the Sancoale communidade and the Dy Collector later assured the people to resolve the issue and have the road cleared on Thursday.

This pacified the residents, who had decided to camp on the road all night, and they later returned to their houses. Cortalim MLA Anton Vas said the residents had demanded the road in the area before elections.

“We began the process to get the road here but the residents have informed me that the Sancoale Communidade has suddenly blocked this road by dumping mud here.”

“I spoke to the Communidade who said that this road could split their property and I personally arrived here to take a site inspection to realise that the proposed road does not affect their property and is in the side along the Kala Bhavan.”

“These people are not seeking property to build houses but only demanding an access road. I request the Communidade to give them this road and I have also spoken to the Dy Collector who has asked the residents to submit a signed memorandum to him tomorrow, after which he will take appropriate decision to get this issue resolved,” said Vas.

Speaking to reporters, a resident, Shankar Pandit, said the residents had signed a memorandum with several signatures to be submitted to Dy Collector for immediate action.
