The Sancoale Panchayat on Tuesday inspected hill cutting activity at a site in the village.
A local, Pratap Mardolkar, had filed a complaint alleging that a resident of Sancoale had forged and fabricated a document to cheat and misrepresent authorities in the transfer of house tax and conducting of illegal hill cutting activity.
Acting on the complaint, a team from the Sancoale Panchayat, including Deputy Sarpanch Girish Pillai and ward councillor Derrick Vales, inspected the site.
The panchayat team assessed the situation first-hand and assured residents that appropriate action will be taken to address the illegal activities.
Speaking at the site, Pillai emphasised the need to prevent any environmental hazards, drawing parallels to the recent disaster in Wayanad.
“We are committed to ensuring the safety of our residents and preserving the environment. Any illegal activities will be dealt with strictly,” said Pillai.
The Sancoale Panchayat has promised to follow-up on this issue and take necessary measures to prevent potential environmental damage, and to ensure that all-developmental activities comply with the law.
Further investigations into the alleged forged documents and misrepresentation will be carried out by relevant authorities.
