The Congress last week staged a protest over the poor condition of the road near DMart at Sancoale, accusing the BJP-led administration of failing to repair the stretch despite repeated demands over the past five years.
Leading the protest, Cortalim Congress leader Mahesh Nadar alleged that the road has remained in poor condition, causing inconvenience and posing a safety risk to commuters, motorists and local residents.
Nadar said the road has steadily deteriorated despite several representations and protests by the Congress. He pointed out that Cortalim MLA Anton Vas, the Sancoale Panchayat and the Cortalim Zilla Panchayat member are all backed by the BJP, yet no action has been taken to repair the road. He also alleged that the local ZP member and some panchayat members live near the road but have failed to respond to residents’ complaints.
According to Nadar, the damaged road has made travel difficult, increased vehicle wear and tear, and raised the risk of accidents, especially during the monsoon.
The Congress demanded that the government immediately sanction funds and carry out permanent repairs, including hotmixing. The party warned that it would intensify its agitation if the road is not repaired soon and continue raising the issue until the authorities take action.
