The Sancoale panchayat has taken up work on a new Material Recover Facility (MRF) yard in Zuarinagar and has warned of strict action on those found dumping garbage in the open or by the roadsides.
Sancoale Sarpanch Ramakant Borkar told reporters that the MRF unit has been taken up with support from Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho.
“The MRF unit will accumulate all dry garbage and bale it, while also disposing it off scientifically. We are also trying to get road access to this unit which is ready so that the functioning of the MRF facility begins at the earliest.”
“We also have plans to have a bio-digester to cater to wet waste arriving from all areas including Zuarinagar and the slums. This will ensure that the garbage issues of Sancoale village are completely resolved," said Borker.
Borker said the panchayat will ask locals not to dump garbage in the open after the MRF unit is put to use.
"We have been lenient all this while but we will now caution all people and when MRF begins operations, we will start with heavy fines on those dumping garbage in the open.”
“We will also have a camera installed in various locations around the MRF to protect our machinery as well and we will place a security at the MRF site," said Borker.
