Sand mining: Cops seize truck at Uzro-Camurlim

Continuing its crackdown on the illegal sand extraction in Salcete, the  Maina-Curtorim police on Friday seized a truck laden with sand at  Uzro-Camurlim.

Police said the truck driver has been arrested by the police under the provisions of the IPC and he Minor Minerals Act.

The value of the sand being transported by the vehicle was pegged at Rs 12,000.

This  is the second instance wherein the Maina-Curtorim police has cracked a  whip against illegal sand extraction. A day ago, the police has seized a  truck and initiated criminal proceedings against illegal sand  extraction taking place in its jurisdiction.

Meanwhile, in another  development, the police has registered a case against the resident for  interfering in a comundiade land at Loutolim. The police is investigating.
