Saligao MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar has said the Sangolda comunidade has agreed to offer land near Gautam Hotel at Sangolda for the construction of a water storage facility, and work on this project would begin shortly.
He was speaking to reporters after launching the work to widen a road and construct a footpath from Guirim to Saligao circle in the presence of the panch members of Saligao, Sangolda and Guirim at the Saibaba temple in Sangolda.
“Residents near Gautam Hotel have been facing water shortage and they have demanded the construction of a water storage facility. The Sangolda comunidade has agreed to offer land near Gautam Hotel for this project and it will be taken up shortly,” said Salgaonkar.
Commenting on the road-widening work and construction of a footpath, the Saligao MLA said the road near Saibaba temple is narrow.
“The presence of many devotees in the temple, especially during Thursday, causes traffic congestion. Since there is enough space at the side, it was decided to widen the road from Guirim to Saligao circle and to construct a footpath for pedestrians at Rs 2.3 crore,” said Salgaonkar.
He said six villages -- Nerul, Reis Magos, Sangolda, Pilerne“Marra, Saligao and Guirim -- fall under the jurisdiction of the Saligao constituency.
“Initially, I undertook hot mixing of roads at Nerul, followed by Reis Magos and Guirim. Now, repairs/widening and hot mixing of internal roads at Saligao and Sangolda will be taken up in a phased manner.”
“In Pilerne, work to lay underground electrical cables is in progress. Once this work is completed, hot mixing of internal roads will be taken up in Pilerne,” said Salgaonkar.
Sangolda Sarpanch Ulhas Morajkar thanked the Saligao MLA for taking up the road-widening work, which was a long pending demand of the locals.
