PORVORIM
Accusing Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for failing to honour his promise of resolving water shortage problems in Porvorim by March-end, Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte has warned that people would be forced to agitate if the water problem was not resolved in four days.
“While laying the foundation stone for the Lekha Bhavan (accounts department), the chief minister had assured that 5 MLD water would be released from the water treatment plant at Povorim by March-end,” said Khaunte, while speaking to reporters near the water treatment plant at Porvorim.
“We are now in mid-April and there is not a drop of water at this water storage plant. Water from Tillari is not being released to Porvorim. This water storage plant is completely dry and from where will water be treated and released to residents in Porvorim,” asked Khaunte.
“If the water scarcity problem is not resolved within four days, residents in Porvorim will be forced to agitate,” warned Khaunte.
The Porvorim MLA claimed that the PWD has continued to give connections to new commercial establishments even though there is no water for residents.
“The new high court building has been given water connection from the existing pipeline, due to which residents in the locality face acute water shortage.”
“Officials of Water Resources Department had assured me that Tillari water would be released to Porvorim within two days, but so far no water has been released,” said Khaunte.
He said residents could not depend on water tankers for supply as most tankers continue to supply water to hotels.
“The problem of water scarcity would be even more severe in May. The government should act quickly to resolve the water crisis by commissioning the water treatment plant,” said Khaunte.
