Priti Naik was on Friday elected unopposed as chairperson of Sanguem Municipal Council (SMC), following the resignation submitted by outgoing chairperson Sweta Naik Tari.
At the special meeting held today, returning officer Nilesh Daigodkar received only one nomination from Priti Naik.
The meeting was attended by all 10 councillors and Chief Officer Bhagwant Karmalkar.
Speaking after the election, SMC Vice Chairperson Queiroz Cruz spoke on development projects undertaken during the tenure of outgoing chairperson Sweta Naik Tari and appealed to councillors to continue with the same support during the tenure of the new chairperson.
The post of chairperson at SMC is reserved for women and as per a mutual understanding, the post is being shared on rotation basis during the five-year term.
Sweta Naik Tari had resigned from the post on completion of the mutually agreed term.
