Residents from Sanguem who have been been demanding the withdrawal of the draft notification declaring over 16 villages as eco-sensitive areas have welcomed the statements by TCP Vishwajit Rane who has demanded withdrawal of the eco-sensitive zone notification.
The villagers from remote villages in Sanguem under the banner of ‘Sanguem Vikas Manch’ have been demanding immediate withdrawal of the draft notification as it was going to severely affect their livelihood and their day-to-day activities.
Sanguem Vikas Manch President Adv. Anand Gaonkar appreciated the statements by Rane, which, incidentally, came a day after a largely attended meeting convened by Sanguem Vikas Manch at
Curdi-Wadem.
At the meeting, the villagers, a majority of who reside in hilly areas and the interiors of Sanguem taluka, questioned the logic followed by the government to declare the hinterland areas as eco-sensitive zone.
The villagers have threatened to intensify their agitation if the proposed notification is not withdrawn by the end of December.
At the meeting, the speakers had also claimed that the draft notification declaring eco-sensitive zones was also challenged by BJP-ruled states of Karnataka and Gujarat.
Gaonkar informed that the draft notification is set to deprive villagers from their livelihood and primary occupation in the hilly areas.
Thanking Rane for extending his support for the withdrawal of the draft notification, the villagers claimed the draft notification is set to do more damage than good to the people living in remote villages.
