SANGUEM
The rasta roko agitation called by social activists from Sanguem under the banner of Sanguemkarancho Ekvott ended in less than an hour after an assurance given by the officials from the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation and also by the Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar that the work of the parallel bridge at Bendwada Sanguem will resume by January 31, 2021.
A large posse of policemen from Sanguem and Quepem police stations were stationed on both sides of the bridge to avoid any untoward incident.
Incidentally, before the agitators could arrive at the bridge for the rasta roko agitation at 2 pm, an official from the GSIDC Joshi made his presence felt at the spot and urged the protestors not to block the road but instead have discussions and talks by the side of the bridge to which the agitators agreed.
However, when Joshi assured that the work of the bridge will commence by end of January 31 next year, the agitators demanded the same to be given in writing to which Joshi denied. This led the situation getting a little tensed at which point of time councillor Romualdo Fernandes called the PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar who assured that he will take all due initiative in getting the bridgework started by end of January 2021.
At this time, Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar called on the Mamlatdar of Sanguem Manoj Korgaonkar and passed on the message that he will speak to the PWD Minister and the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to get the work of the parallel bridge at Bendwada started by end of January 2021.
When Mamlatdar Korgaonkar conveyed the message to the agitators, they heaved a sigh of relief and agreed to disperse after the assurance given by Kavlekar.
President of Sanguemkarancho Ekvott Meshu Da Costa however warned the authorities that if the authorities fail to commence the work by February 1, 2021, people from Sanguem will not keep quiet but will decide on the future course of action and if need be may even block the Cortalim bridge
