Peter Vaz, the Sporting Clube de Goa boss and former vice-president of Goa Football Association, was laid to rest following a Eucharistic celebration at Our Lady of Rosary Church, Caranzalem on Sunday.
Amidst the pandemic, nothing deterred people from various sections of the society to pay their last respects to Vaz, who was a renowned businessman who turned his Models Group into one of the leading business groups of Goa, with diversified interests in construction, tourism, hospitality and sports.
An emotional farewell was given to Vaz by his team Sporting Clube de Goa led by captain Marcus Mascarenhas. A guard of honour was given to the Sporting Clube patron and the SCG flag was placed on his casket. As a mark of respect, the club officials and players carried his casket from his residence to the church in Caranzalem. Fr Rosario, Parish Priest, was the main celebrant while Fr Avin Carvalho, Rector of Don Bosco, delivered the Homily in Konkani as well as in English among other co-celebrants including Fr Frederick Rodrigues, Superior Pilar, Fr Willy Fernandes.
Among those who paid their last respects to the departed soul were MLAs Churchill Alemao, Nilkant Halarnkar, Atanasio Monserrate, Jennifer Monserrate, Michael Lobo, Rohan Khaunte, Francis Silveira, ex-MLA Benjamin Silva, Dempo SC boss Shrinivas Dempo, Dionizio Dias (GFA Treasurer), Anthony Pango (GFA Vice President), Jonathan De Souza, John Silva, Anthony Leo Fernandes, Cosme Oliveira (GFA Members), Anthony Levino Pereira (Salgaocar FC coach), Welvin Menezes, Angelo Albuquerque, Victor Fernandes, Edward Noronha, Anthony Vas along with the officials and players of Sporting Clube de Goa.
