Sanguem school management to conduct meeting today

Assault on student

A special meeting of the management of a school in Sanguem scheduled for Thursday to address a serious incident involving the headmistress, who was caught on camera repeatedly slapping a Class VI student, has been postponed to Friday.

When contacted, the chairman of the school management told The Goan that the meeting had to be postponed because most of the trustees were either unavailable or out of town.

He said the school management plans to take strict action against the headmistress after discussing the matter with the trustees and other members of the school management.

The incident had occurred in the classroom when the headmistress slapped a student 4-5 times while reportedly trying to resolve a conflict between students.

On learning of the incident, the boy's mother immediately sought an explanation from the headmistress but did not get any cooperation.

This prompted the mother to file a formal complaint with the Sanguem police, who have since registered the offence and are currently investigating the case.

CCTV footage of the incident has been circulated, and the local community, including parents, has strongly condemned her actions, emphasising that such behaviour is unacceptable.
