Remote Sanguem taluka will soon witness a turnaround not just in terms of eco-tourism, hinterland tourism and adventure tourism, but will play host to a tribal village with a focus on handicrafts.
Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phaldesai, who represents Sanguem in the Goa Legislative Assembly, said Sanguem will play host to adventure, eco and hinterland tourism within two years. “If Calangute is the favourite destination of tourists, visitors will also pay a visit to Sanguem when the taluka is developed without destroying the environment”, he said.
In this context, the Minister has set in motion the process of tapping funds from the Central government, exuding confidence that the first foundation stone for the tourism project will be laid within the next six months.
"The tribal village planned in Sanguem will focus on handicrafts which will employ around 1000-1500 youth of the taluka. Once the taluka is developed, tourists will stay in the hinterland taluka for at least two days since we have decided to develop the spots, including the springs, and botanical garden. Once developed, Sanguem can even qualify for a perfect wedding destination”, he said.
Phaldesai further said he has moved the centre for tapping the funds and to zero on the tourism model which will be stressed in Sanguem.
