The Santa Cruz panchayat authorities met Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and apprised him of the need of setting up a full-fledged police station in the village.
Divulging this to reporters, sarpanch Jeniffer Oliveira informed that the meeting took place on Tuesday wherein the CM was requested to ensure that the police outpost in Santa Cruz is converted into a police station, which would cater to Merces and Chimbel as well.
“Apart from that, we have urged CM Sawant to ensure that hawkers doing business outside the GMC are also cleared,” Oliveira added.
When questioned by The Goan on bypassing the local MLA Rudolf Fernandes, deputy sarpanch Domnic Pereira said that the MLA did not raise the issue of the police station at the recently concluded Assembly despite the panchayat submitting a memorandum to him.
“As the MLA failed to raise the issue in Assembly and get assurance on the setting up of police station, we had no choice but to meet the CM ourselves and raise the demand,” Pereira stated while adding that Sawant himself agreed that there was a need for a police station in Santa Cruz.
On the hawkers doing business outside GMC, Pereira said that Sawant has assured that action would be initiated against them.
“After meeting the CM, we got a call from Agassaim police station who have asked to submit a memorandum to them on the issue,” Pereira further added.
On the kiosk owners doing business outside the rehabilitation project, Pereira said that the panchayat has also asked for action against those sitting outside and not using the shops allotted.
“We are going to initiate action against them after following the proper procedure,” Pereira added but failed to provide answers on whether there would be redressal of the issues faced by the vendors due to faulty project planning.
“If the shops were faulty, they should not have accepted the same,” Pereira opined.
