Another senior leader, MP Francisco Sardinha has expressed concern over the state of Congress affairs, making it categorically clear that the party is on the decline in the state during the tenure of GPCC Chief Girish Chodankar.
The South Goa MP has said that all the senior Congress leaders, including Digambar Kamat, Pratapsing Rane, Luizinho Faleiro, Reginaldo Lourenco and others should shoulder the responsibility to revive the party ahead of the 2022 Assembly election.
Sardinha’s remarks come two days after Congress veteran and Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro said he felt sad and bad to see the present state of affairs, with the party losing 13 MLAs, the by-elections, Zilla Panchayat and the municipal polls.
He declined to comment on a question whether incumbent GPCC Chief Girish Chodankar should quit the party in view of the party’s decline, saying the party high command will take a call on the leadership issue.
He, however, reminded that Girish had tendered his resignation twice from the post and hoped the party high command will take a decision on the GPCC president at the earliest.
Commenting on the GPCC Chief, Sardinha said that Girish wants to contest whenever there are elections. “He had contested the Panaji by-poll and lost. We had a candidate in Panaji, who could have polled more votes, if not won the seat.”
On Pratima’s allegation that Congress leaders did not work for her, Sardinha said he was busy with the election in TN and Puducherry. “Pratima was talking big she was an MP and MLA material, but the people have shown her in the election her place,” he added.
