South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha on Wednesday said the Covid deaths would be been comparatively less if the state government had gone in for the lockdown 15 days earlier.
Saying that vaccination is the only solution to protect oneself from Coronavirus, Sardinha said Covid cases have come down in Europe because of vaccination of the populace.
Briefing the media, the MP said Chief Minister Pramod Sawant did not open his eyes when people were demanding imposing of the lockdown to contain the spread of Coronavirus. “The deaths have reduced because of the lockdown. If this was done 15 days prior to the official lockdown, it would have been much better. We feel sad that so many people have died in the second wave. The effect would have been less if the CM had gone for the lockdown earlier”, he said, reminding that while the people and the panchayats imposed lockdowns in their area, the government delayed.
Reminding that time and tides wait for none, Sardinha said many lives would have been saved if the government had put the infrastructure and logistics in place.
He requested the government to open its eyes and put in place what is needed to meet the future requirements.
The MP, however, complimented the health care workers, including doctors, nurses and the paramedics for working 24x7 to save lives.
