MARGAO
Congress South Goa candidate Francisco Sardinha wound up his campaign in Margao in style with a round in the New market, as he sought the blessings of the market traders and customers to play his fourth innings as Member of Parliament.
Accompanied by the president of the New Market Traders Association, Vinod Shirodkar, Margao block president Gopal Naik and party workers, Sardinha walked through the narrow and congested lanes of the new market on Thursday morning.
As he went around the market, in support of his candidature, extending handshakes to all and sundry, party workers distributed hand bills on the Congress agenda.
Sardinha later told the media that he is overwhelmed by the support he received from the new market traders and customers alike. “People of South Goa have already taken a decision to bring back the Congress to power. Traders, vendors, small time businessmen and the common man were the worst hit in the last five years during the tenure of the Narendra Modi government. They are all waiting to vote for the Congress in the coming election,” Sardinha added.
All the three main candidates, sitting BJP MP Narendra Sawaikar, Elvis Gomes (AAP) and now the Congress candidate had all kept their dates with the new market traders “ a tradition followed by contesting candidates, be it the Lok Sabha poll or election for the State Legislative Assembly.
