South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha on Saturday said he has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to immediately withdraw the DPR nod accorded to Karnataka to divert waters from river Mhadei.
In his letter, copies of which were also sent to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Jal Shakti Minster, Sardinha said he has demanded to know from the Centre how the DPR was approved when the matter is sub judice in the court.
Addressing the media, Sardinha pointed out that Goans would not mind giving some water to Karnataka for drinking purpose. He, however, charged Karnataka for trying to divert the river Mhadei water to the state for irrigation under the guise of drinking water.
The South Goa MP has warned that Goa would suffer if the river Mhadei river water is diverted to Karnataka, while calling upon the government to protect the interests of the state at all costs.
