The nine sarpanchas “ Delilah Lobo, Rama Parab, Vinay Chopdekar, Pratima Govekar, Sapna Mapari, Eknath Oraskar, Nilesh Vaigankar, Pratiksha Mayenkar and Kalpana Dalvi “ were the role models to give stability in Parra, Oxel, Pomburpa-Olaulim, Anjuna-Caisua, Assonora, Saligao, Siolim-Sodiem, Bastora and Camurlim panchayats.
Assonora sarpanch Sapna Mapari attributed the panchayat’s stability to the all-round development of all the nine wards in the panchayat without any discrimination and her rapport with her colleagues.
“Giving equal attention to all the wards vis-Ã -vis development and better understanding and cooperation among all ward members along with the support of local MLA helped me to remain in the seat for five years,” Mapari said.
Data showed that smaller the panchayats, better the chances for the sarpanch to complete a full term.
Of the eight panchayats, five are seven-member and one is a five-member body. Anjuna-Caisua is a 11-member panchayat, while Saligao and Assonora panchayats have nine members each.
As first time Saligao sarpanch, Eknath Oraskar had no opposition in his nine-member panchayat and managed to pass all the resolutions unanimously.
“There is no secret formula to complete the term as sarpanch. The only secret if it is one was that
I used to take every single member into confidence before discussing any issue,” Oraskar said.
Interestingly, he managed to remain in the seat for the entire term, despite the presence of three former sarpanchas in the panchayat body.
