MARGAO
Non-functioning street lights dominated the proceedings at Sarzora gram sabha on Sunday.
The meeting chaired by Sarpanch Sabita Mascarenhas saw members airing their complaints on the non-functional of street lights in the village and the failure of the authorities to repair them. They demanded that the contractors appointed by the government to oversee the repair and maintenance of the street lights have not been of any help to the villagers.
Sarpanch Sabita explained the agitated members that she had been in touch with the host of contractors to repair the street lights, but in vain, adding that the frequent replacement of the contractors have further aggravated the problem.
After much discussions, the gram sabah further resolved that the Panchayat should write to the government to get the street light functioning under the power department.
The gram sabha also discussed the issue of solid waste management in the village. After gram sabha members complained that plastic waste is being burnt in certain areas of the village, posing health hazard to the local residents, the Sarpanch assured the members that the Panchayat will crack a whip against the nuisance by issuing notices and levying fines.
