Sarzora up in arms over proposed road in RP21
Demand that the govt sticks to the suggestions of the village panel

The Sarzora gram sabha on Sunday asked the Panchayat to take up with the Town and Country Planning (TCP) the question of a major district road proposed by the government in the RP 21.
At the Sunday gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Jacinto Fernandes, the meeting deliberated on the Regional Plan and the roads proposed by the government in the plan. The members took exception to the 25 meter Guddi-Chinchinim Major District Road (MDR) proposed through the village. They also took umbrage to the proposed 15 meter and 10 meter internal roads in the village and have called upon the panchayat to write to the TCP with the demand that the government stick to the recommendations made by the village-level committee constituted to suggest changes to the RP 21.
Jacinto told The Goan after the meeting that the panchayat would soon write to the TCP to adhere to the recommendations made by the village level committee in respect of the roads. “Gram sabha members felt that the proposed internal roads should be restricted to either 10 meters or less than 10 meters. They have objected to the 15 meter wide internal road in the village,” he said.
The sarpanch further informed that the gram sabha has asked to him pursue with the panchayat minister the status of the panchayat ghar proposal. “The GSIDC had taken up the project, but the same could not be taken up for want of funds. I will personally take up the matter with the panchayat minister to ensure that funds are released for the project at the earliest,” Jacinto told The Goan.

Velim opposes industries zone, 20-point prog in RP21
Says no space to further broaden the notified MDR road

The special gram sabha of Velim on Saturday opposed micro-industries zone and a 20-point programme proposed atop the Baradi hillock in the RP 21.
The special gram sabha also resolved to request the PWD to de-notify the Chinchinim-Velim road as a Major District Road (MBR) saying there’s no space left for expansion of the road.
At the special gram sabha held on Liberation Day, members sought to know how the authorities have planned micro-industries and a 20-point housing programme atop the Baradi hillock, when it ought to have been notified as a heritage area.
Sarpanch Melvyn Sanches said the gram sabha members were opposed to the housing and industries proposed atop the hillock and demanded that the authorities retain the existing orchard zone.
On the controversy surrounding the road, the sarpanch informed that the authorities have notified the road going to Cumbeabhat from behind the Church right down to Muxer sluice gate as MBR. “People have opposed the government decision and want the road to be maintained as other village roads. Similarly, the people have demanded de-notification of the St Sebastian, Chinchinim-Velim road as MBR and retain the road as a village road,” Melvyn said.
Replying to a question, he said the panchayat would write to the PWD to de-notify the MRB road.
