Emphasising the sacred and cultural importance of cows in Indian tradition, thousands of devotees from Sattari taluka have demanded that the Central Government enact a stringent law to completely stop cow slaughter and ensure the protection of cattle.

The demand was formally submitted through a memorandum to Sub-Divisional Officer Laxmikant Kurtekar by the Sattari unit of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, along with the Goraksha and Cattle Conservation Centre.

The delegation urged that the memorandum be forwarded to the President, Prime Minister, Vice President, Governor, and Chief Minister without delay. As part of the campaign, thousands of citizens across the taluka have signed in support of the initiative.

Speaking to the media, RSS functionary Anantarav Rane stated that Hindu scriptures consider the cow sacred, and that increasing incidents of cow slaughter pose a serious threat to Hindu culture and spiritual values.

“Mere penalties are not enough; a strict law that creates fear among offenders is necessary,” he asserted.

Senior RSS member Ganpatrao Rane criticised what he termed weak enforcement by authorities.

He alleged that the illegal transportation of beef from Karnataka into Goa continues despite repeated seizures at the Keri check-post.

“Vehicles are caught, but released with nominal fines. This is misleading the public. If strict vigilance is not maintained, Hindu organisations will be compelled to launch strong agitations,” he warned.

Goraksha activist Hanumant Parab stressed the need for strict enforcement.

He said that while activists often risk their lives to intercept illegal meat transport, police action appears inconsistent.

“Authorities must remain vigilant at border check-posts. Until cows are given the status of ‘Rashtramata’, this struggle will continue,” he said.

According to sources, the ‘Gomata Samman’ campaign will not remain limited to Sattari but will be extended across Goa. Similar signature drives and memorandums will be organised at the taluka level and submitted to state and central authorities.
