Losing his job when mining activity stopped did not deter Sadyo Keshav Melekar from a poor family in Shel-Melavali in Sattari from pursuing a trade course at the ITI in Farmagudi.
Melekar’s focus and determination resulted in exceptional success and not only did he excel at his institute and the state level, he recently secured the first rank at 55th All India Skill Competition for Craftsmen.
Melekar has now been selected for the Presidential Award.
Melekar (26) hails from a financially weak family. His father had expired in 2015.
After completing his graduation in commerce, Melekar joined a mining company, but lost his job when court stopped stopped the activity.
Despite the double blow of having lost his father and his job, Melekar did not give up and in 2015 enrolled for an electrical course at the ITI at Farmagudi.
His efforts secured him the first rank at the ITI in 2018 and Melekar also went on to top the ITI examination at the state-level.
Melekar then took part in the 55th All India Skill Competition for Craftsmen and secured the first place in the electrical trade. He will now receive the Presidential Award for his success.
An elated Melekar said the national award was a prestigious moment for him and his family.
“My success is due to the dedication of my family, my mother and married sister who supported me at every step,” said Melekar, when contacted by local reporters.
Lauding Melekar for his outstanding achievement, Health Minister and local MLA Vishwajit Rane said Melekar’s achievement was a prestigious moment for the entire Sattari taluka and the State.
“His efforts will not go in vain and efforts will be made to provide support to the family,” said Rane.
Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Digambar Kamat has also hailed the achievement of Melekar.
Kamat made a telephonic call to Melekar and congratulated him on topping the 55th All India Skill Competition for Craftsmen.
Kamat urged Rane, who is also Minister for Craftsmen Training, to felicitate the young achiever with a cash reward to recognise his performance.
“I appeal to the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to formulate a scheme so that such achievers are given assistance in their future endeavours,” stated Kamat in a press note.
“This is a proud moment for Goa. I am sure Goan youth will take inspiration from Melekar to excel in various fields. I also urge our youth to focus on their skills and try to get excellence which will eventually help them to stand on their feet.”
Incidentally, Kamat also highlighted the achievement of other Goan youth who had excelled at the national level.
“I would like to bring to the notice of the government that Allan Fernandes, Fitter Trainee at Cacora ITI, stood first in India in 2009, while in 2018, Schinela Fernandes from Margao ITI was awarded Best Craftsmen in India at the 54th All India Skill Competition.”
“Vaibhavi Amonkar from Mapusa ITI stood first in India as Computer Operator Programming Assistant in 2018. These students have brought laurels to the State of Goa and also deserve recognition from the State government.”
“These youth are awarded Rs 50,000 and a certificate by the central government. I urge the Goa government to honour them with a reward of a minimum Rs 25,000 to recognise their achievements,” Kamat added.
