Save Mhadei Save Goa Front to create awareness taluka-wise

OLD GOA

The Save Mhadei Save Goa Front has decided to hold corner meetings in all 12 talukas of the State to create awareness among the public on Mhadei.

Speaking to reporters in Panaji on Monday, Front convenor Prajal Sakhardande informed that in all villages of all talukas, there will be corner meetings so that there is the involvement of the people in the Mhadei movement.

“The meetings will begin today (Monday) and continue till Saturday. Taluka-wise coordinators have been named and they have been given the responsibility to organise meetings in the villages of each taluka,” Sakhardande said.

“Further, coming Sunday at 7.30 pm, people will light candles or diyas in their houses. Then, on February 16, a prayer meeting of all religions will be held before finally culminating into a mega meeting at Azad Maidan or Lohia Maidan so that the message is clearly sent to the Centre that Goans want to save Mhadei,” Sakhardande stated.

Adv Hrudaynath Shirodkar said the aim is to create scientific awareness among the public on the importance of Mhadei and the ill effects the water diversion will have on Goa and Goans.

“We will take the issue to the doorstep of every Goan so that once we give the Goa Bandh call, then all Goans will participate in the same without resorting to violence,” Shirodkar added.

Shirodkar then appealed to the people to hold religious prayers in their homes on Sunday and upload the video of the same on social media.

“Also, on February 16, people should remain present in large numbers near the new Patto bridge where Mhadei Aarti will be organised,” he added.

Shirodkar also informed that the Front has got support from Sarpanch Seva Sangh (Dodamarg), Vanashree Foundation (Sindhudhurg), Dodamarg Shiv Sena as also locals from Kankumbi.

When pointed out by The Goan that there is a lack of aggressiveness on the issue, Shirodkar said that they don’t want to inconvenience the people through violence.

“We want that the people should voluntarily participate in the movement so that there is no need of resorting to violence,” he stated.

Mahesh Mahambrey, Tanoj Adwalpalkar, Anthony D’Silva, Mariano Ferrao and Salman Khan were also present.
