OLD GOA
The Save Old Goa Action Committee has claimed that the Investment Promotion Board (IPB) has scrapped a controversial project near the Monte Chapel in Old Goa.

Their claim was made in reference to a social media post by IPB member Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco who wrote on July 11, “Today Investment Promotion Board at its meeting scrapped Old Goa project.”

Speaking to reporters over the post in Panaji on Saturday, Save Old Goa Action Committee president Fatima Periera thanked all the Goans who filed objections against the project. In all, around 14,000 objections were filed against the project. “I thank all the Goans who filed their objections against the project, due to which the project has got scrapped,” Pereira said.

When questioned how they came to know that the project had been scrapped, Old Goa local Glen Cabral informed that a couple of days back IPB member Lourenco posted on social media that the project had been scrapped.

“Lourenco had also filed an objection against the project and he posted on social media after the IPB meet held on Thursday,” Cabral stated while welcoming the decision.

Activist Swapnesh Sherlekar called the victory a silver lining as far as Old Goa is concerned and demanded that the vast area which has been converted should also be reverted.

Historian Prajal Sakhardande and architect Tahir Norotonha also spoke at the news conference.
