Chief Minister Pramod Sawant at a function on Saturday announced that the retirement age for Anganwadi workers will be increased from 60 to 62 years and their salaries will also be hiked.
Sawant made the statement at the launch of the Yashaswini scheme for women entrepreneurship done at the hands of Union minister for women and child development Smriti Irani.
Swasthya Sakhi project (a tool kit distribution through CSR initiative for health care workers to help pregnant women) and breast cancer screening initiative was also launched on the occasion.
Sawant and Health minister Vishwajit Rane were present at the launch event held at Dr Shama Prasad Mukherjee stadium, Bambolim.
Irani in her address at the event said that under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, more than 70 lakh women had undergone screening for breast cancer.
She further added that around 30 lakh women across India have been screened for cervical cancer under the national universal healthcare scheme.
“Traditionally, women from rural areas were reluctant to go through such screening, but they have given tremendous response to the government’s scheme,” she said.
Irani while making a point that National Democratic Alliance-government achieved targets before the deadline said that the target of giving five crore women cooking gas cylinders under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) has been achieved well before the deadline of 2020 and eight crore cylinders have been distributed so far.
She also hailed the Goa government for setting a target to screen 20,000 women for breast cancer.
Under Yashaswini scheme, women’s self help groups will be given interest free loans of up to five lakh rupees for running a business.
The self help groups will have to repay the loan
after two years in four installments.
Adarsha Sateri Mahila Mandal from Guleli-Sattari, Umang Self Help group Salcete, Phoenix women’s wing self help group Valpoi-Sattari were given loans under the Yashaswini scheme.
Rane claimed that around 500 Self Help Groups will be disbursed loans initially under the scheme.
