A group of Mapusa residents led by former councilor Tushar Tople said that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has assured them that the Shigmo parade in Mapusa will be held on a Sunday as it was held for the last several years.
The residents had called on the Chief Minister on Monday evening at his official residence in Panaji and explained to him the significance of holding the parade on a Sunday instead of Monday as for the last 42 years the Shigmo parade was always held on a Sunday in the commercial town of North Goa.
This year the Shigmo Parade was scheduled on a Monday (March 13) and Sunday was allotted to the neighbouring Porvorim constituency.
Besides Tople, former councilor Narayan Ratwad, Sanjay Barde, Eknath Mhapsekar also part of the delegation who met the chief minister.
“The CM was very sensitive and accommodating to our suggestion and agreed to hold Shigmo parade on a Sunday. In our presence he called the Tourism Minister and requested him to revert back the Mapusa parade on Sunday. We are very thankful to the CM,” Tople said.
