Expressing concern over mass absenteeism of employees, Dr Sawant also regretted the sorry state of affairs at the Sakhali swimming pool.
Dr Sawant decided to pay a surprise visit to the Sakhali swimming pool after receiving complaints from public that the pool had not been functioning properly since the last few days.
During his visit, Dr Sawant found that nine of the 28 employees were not present at work. Further inquiries revealed that five employees were absent, while two of them came in late and two groundsmen had gone to some other place for work.
Taking strong note of their dereliction of duty, Dr Sawant instructed the administrative officials to direct the sports department to suspend the five absent employees.
Later speaking to media persons, Dr Sawant said, “I have decided to pay sudden visits in order to bring about transparency in work.”
