Asserting that the State government has passed the three Outline Development Plans favouring the builders' lobby, Fatorda MLA Vijay Sardessai on Saturday said he would approach the State Election Commission for cancellation of the ODPs.
“With the passing of the three ODPs, the State government has made it very clear that it is out to sell Goa. The ODPs have been passed to facilitate the builders' lobby,” Sardessai said.
The Fatorda MLA was speaking at Goa Forward Party's public meeting in Verla-Canca on Saturday evening. GFP candidates from Siolim and Saligao, Vinod Palyekar and Jayesh Salgaonkar, respectively, former Verla-Canca sarpanch Milton Marques, GFP spokesman Durgadas Kamat and others were also present at the meeting.
Speaking further, he said since the election code of conduct is imminent, the government in a hurry passed the ODPs to satisfy certain builders sympathetic towards the BJP.
“The builders will help in funding the BJP in the ensuing assembly elections and that is why the ODPs have been passed just before the election,” he alleged.
It may be recalled that Deputy Chief Minister Francis D'Souza had recently presided over the Town and Country Planning Board meeting wherein Regional Plan of two talukas of Sattari and Canacona and three ODPs “ Panaji, Margao and Mapusa -- were approved by the TCP board.
Censuring the BJP-led government, the Independent MLA from Fatorda said a government that has no respect for the rule of law has no right to govern and has to be defeated in the ensuing assembly elections.
Taking off against Art and Culture Minister and Siolim MLA, Dayanand Mandrekar, he said the minister was involved in huge scams in the art and culture department. “The future of the youth in Siolim is at stake if the local MLA is re-elected in the constituency,” Sardessai said and urged the people of Siolim to reject Mandrekar at the hustings.
Criticising the Centre's move on demonetisation of currency, he said the move was done with the elections in four states in mind and to ensure that BJP contestants would benefit from the move.
“The aim to purge black money through demonetisation has come a cropper but in the bargain the common man has suffered the most,” he said.
Siolim GFP leader Vinod Palyekar said he was forced to quit Congress due to the party's failure to take a firm stand in the assembly election.
Saligao GFP leader Jayesh Salgaonkar, former Verla-Canca sarpanch, Milton Marques, party spokesman, Durgadas Kamat also spoke.
