Says chairperson will be of some experience

Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza hinted that the chairperson will be from among the candidates that has experience.
“The group of 16 will sit and elect the leader on November 12, soon after taking the oath as councillors,” D’Souza said. “The candidate will be from among the experienced lot, as we have to take forward the development work in the town,” he added.
There are two former chairpersons “ Sandeep Falari and Sudhir Kandolkar “ in the group of 16 that have abundant experience to run the council. Long-time councillor Marlene D’Souza could also be a likely contender and emerge as a consensus candidate among the lot. Former councillors Ryan Braganza and Rohan Kavlekar could also throw their hat in the ring.
According to the deputy chief minister, having one person at the helm was a perfect kind of situation and at times it was difficult to manage an ambitious group.
He attributed the BJP-backed panel’s massive victory for two reasons: lack of opposition and selection of candidates.
“We had no opposition at all in Mapusa. The opposition failed to field a panel and therefore we had it easy,” the deputy chief minister said.
He further said the choice of candidates with new faces along with experience appealed to the voters and therefore the BJP-backed panel got a thumping win.
