Schools to commence classes for Std X, XII from November 21

PANAJI

Even as countries across the world have begun imposing lockdowns to tackle the second wave of Covid pandemic, Goa’s Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday announced the state government has decided to allow resumption of physical classes for Std X and XII from November 21 by following all Covid safety protocols.

The need to prepare the children for practical examinations has been cited among the reasons which have prompted the decision.

The Education Department had been mulling over this move since the start of the academic calendar in June.

The final round of deliberation took place between September and October with the department consulting all stakeholders from the education sector including parents, teachers and school managements to seek their opinions on the subject.

Speaking to the reporters, CM Sawant said, “They have to answer some practical exams without which they cannot answer their exams. The remaining months will be used for practicals. The department will take a call on this. The department will also send all SOPs to the schools for adherence. No decision has yet been made about reopening the other classes yet.”

This leaves the school managements with less than a fortnight to prepare their premises as well as class schedules in accordance with the safety protocols which will be issued only in the coming days.

The decision was made during a meeting convened by the CM, which was attended by the Education Director and other officials after taking all stakeholders in consultation.
