CM assures to solve toilet issues of panchayats soon

PANAJI
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday disclosed that the state government intends to financially support those who wish to construct a toilet in their own house. He further mooted a plan involving the employment of unemployed engineers and masons from each village to construct the toilets required in their villages thereby tackling the issue of unemployment as well.

“We are thinking that we should support those who want to construct toilets in their own homes by refunding the cost of the construction after an inspection. Unemployed masons or engineers from villages can then come forward and construct those required 100 to 150 toilets. We need to construct 18,000 toilets and we have only constructed 2,000 so far. This will also create employment,” CM Sawant stated.

Sawant revealed that during an interaction with panch members and sarpanchas, it was noticed that many bodies intend to focus on the construction of toilets.

“We declared Goa to be open defecation free. We have set up public toilets everywhere. But practically, these are not able to cater fully to the needs of the people. We have placed an order for 20,000 bio-toilets through our Solid Waste Management body. But the contractor has delayed this,” he said.
