MARGAO
In an interesting development on the multilevel parking project, citizens on Saturday charged that the parking complex area behind the Margao Municipal building has shrunk considerably after a 10-metre wide road was demarcated through the parking area at the old fish market.
In fact, the Shadow Council for Margao has demanded that Urban development Minister Vishwajit Rane order an inquiry into the demarcation of a10-metre wide road to favour real estate vested interests.
The claim made by SCM Convenor Savio Coutinho at a media briefing assumes significance since the proposed parking project will now play host to only 70 four-wheelers and 137 two-wheelers in the Rs 10.80 core project.
Taking a dig at Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, Coutinho said the MLA on one hand claims to be unaware of the plans of the complex, however in the same breath justifies the need for commercial premises in the parking lot, thus confirming how deeply he is inclined to set up a restaurant in the facility.
The Shadow Council and Citizens from Margao also strongly condemned the allegations of Margao MLA Digamber Kamat against the Shadow Council, and challenged him to file FIR against those responsible for defrauding the municipal treasury.
Mahesh Naik demanded for action against the Engineers who deviated from the work schedule and released payments for works that were not executed.
Another citizen Abdulmatin Karol stated that haphazard development is rampantly taking place in Margao whereby road widths are reduced resulting to traffic congestion.
The citizens demanded for transparency and accountability towards the expenditures incurred for development works from the public exchequer.
