MARGAO
With no one assuming responsibility for the mysterious proposal to set up a restaurant in Margao Municipal Council’s multi-level parking project, Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai has demanded a probe to find out how the restaurant proposal has found mention in the project.
After the Margao MLA Digambar Kamat reportedly blamed he ex-Margao Municipal Council behind suggesting the restaurant proposal in the parking project, Sardesai said he is demanding a probe since the ex-MMC Council was headed by the Goa Forward party.
“I do not want anyone to point fingers at our party or the Councils backed by our party. Our ex-Chairperson Lyndon Pereira has clarified that no proposal for inclusion of restaurant was ever suggested by the Council. Even ruling BJP Councillors have time and again said no restaurant proposal was ever discussed by the Civic body. But, the Margao MLA has now suddenly claimed that the restaurant was proposed by the ex-Council. Let us get to the bottom and to expose those who are speaking lies and falsehood just to push the restaurant proposal”, Sardesai told the media on the sidelines of a function here on Saturday.
Saying that officials of the Urban Development headed by Minister Vishwajit Rane should conduct the probe, Sardesai, however, has expressed shock and surprise that the Margao MLA is defending the restaurant proposal when the ruling as well as opposition Margao Municipal Councilors are on record that they have no idea about the restaurant proposal.
“Why is Kamat defending the restaurant proposal if he has no idea of the proposal”, he questioned, adding “who will get parking in the project if a restaurant and wedding hall is proposed in the project”.
Saying he has the right to speak on the issue since he is an associate member of the Margao Municipal Council, Sardesai has warned that he will not remain a silent spectator if an ill-conceived project is thrust upon the people under the guise it is approved by the Margao civic body.
Questioning the inspection conducted of the waste dump near the KTC bus stand by the Margao MLA along with MMC Chairperson Damu Shirodkar and Chief Officer on Friday, Sardesai warned that the people of Fatorda will knock the doors of the High Court if the dump is not removed immediately and rid the GSUDA land from nuisance and a health hazard.
