Even as Margao MLA Digambar Kamat is on a development work launching spree in the city, hopping from one ward to another, launching development works, the Shadow Council for Margao has alleged that the Margao MLA is taking undue credit for Municipal works, to misguide the Madgaonkars, that these works are happening after his migration to the BJP.
“The dream of waking up to see a "Model Margao", is long pending, and launching of such petty works, of the level of local Councillors, is unlikely to create a "Model Margao" of any form, SCM Convenor Savio Coutinho said.
Coutinho clarified that the funds through which these works are being undertaken, are of the Finance Commission grants, and are distributed in all the 25 wards of Margao Municipal Council, and not only Margao as it is made to appear.
“Crores of rupees of the Finance Commission grants were lying idle on account of the shortsightedness of the Council and its mentors. These huge amounts could very well be utilized on infrastructure projects, which the city of Margao is craving badly."
Instead crores of rupees from these grants were utilized to fill up the bank accounts of illegally appointed waste collection contractors, Coutinho charged.
He said a permanent dog shelter is yet to see the light of the day inspite of several promises given by the Margao MLA from 2009 till today.
“It is such a shame that the Margao MLA Digambar Kamat can do nothing about payment of the pending dues of the NGO running the dog shelter. The citizens of Margao continue to face incidents of dog bites; purely because our representatives have very scant regard for public safety”, he said, adding that the stray cattle menace is yet another example where the powers that be have miserably failed to tackle.
