The Shadow Council for Margao (SCM) on Friday condemned the Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC), Margao Municipal Council and those involved in the haphazard and most unscientific waste treatment process in the guise of "Bio Remediation".
SCM convener Savio Coutinho, who visited the site in the vicinity of the District Sessions court at Old market, charged that the authorities were dumping "screened mixed garbage", by claiming it to be inert waste.
While exhibiting the mixed plastic waste, he demanded clarification from the authorities whether the dumped material qualified to be "inert material", and demanded test reports of the waste.
Coutinho stated that he had received several calls from people around the area from Ravindra Bhavan to old market circle and Madel junction about the unbearable stench, and hence visited the site, only to find mixed screened garbage being dumped there by claiming that it was inert material. "If it is inert material, then why such unbearable stench all over nearly one-kilometre radius," Coutinho demanded to know.
