CANACONA
A 72-year-old scooter rider from Sadashivgad (Karwar) was fatally knocked down by a motorist from Thiruvanantpuram (Kerala) at Loliem-Polem on Friday morning. The car driver has been arrested in this connection.
According to Canacona police, the mishap took place as Sebastian Fernandes, was riding his scooter (KA-47-H-7923) towards Canacona, while Anil Kumar was heading towards Karwar in the car (KL-01-BK-8041).
Fernandes died on the spot and the body was first taken to the Canacona Community Health Centre and later shifted to the GMC morgue at Bambolim for an autopsy.
Police said the accused had driven his car in the wrong direction and after hitting the scooter, had fled from the spot. Kumar was subsequently held at the Polem check post. The driver has also been accused of failing to inform police and not making efforts to provide medical help to the victim.
Kumar was later arrested under Sections 279, 304(A) IPC and 134(a) and (b) of MV Act and PSI Damodar Shirodkar is investigating the case.
