The Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM) has once again become active with their long-pending demand to scrap grants to English medium primary school. In a meeting on Sunday the manch has decided to launch a series of state-level protests to press on with the demand.
The BBSM members held a meeting in Panaji at the Dayanand Bandodkar hall. BBSM leader Subhash Velingkar addressed the meeting. In the meeting, the members decided to hold various forms of protest for the fulfillment of their demands.
The BBSM also demanded that the government should immediately restart grant of Rs 400 per student given to Marathi and Konkani medium schools.
BBSM was silent on the issue for the last two years. However, it has now decided to agitate alongside the people on the issue again.
Velingkar said that Government has thrashed the recommendation of the Bhaskar Nayak Committee and was also silent on the new education policy which recommends that education at primary level should be in the mother tongue.
Velingkar said that from April momentum will be given to the demand by the agitating people on the issue.
