Seafarers want Covid vaccine jab on priority

The Goan Seaman Association of India (GSAI) has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant  to  provide seafarers with the COVID vaccine on priority without considering any age limit since the government of India declares that Seafarers as Key workers.

In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister, the GSAI pointed out that that seafarers had faced difficulties in working conditions including uncertainties  about port access, stores supply crew change over's and repatriation as 90 percent of global goods come to us via the global shipping industry.
“In view of this crisis International Maritime Organization draw the attention of member states to designate Seafarers as Key workers providing an essential services to the nation. We urge our Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Minister of Health and Family Welfare (Govt. of India) Harsh Vardhan, Chief Minister (Govt of Goa) Pramod Sawant, Health Minister Vishwajit Pratapsingh Rane to provide Seafarers with the Covid-19 vaccine on priority without considering any age limit”, the letter added.
