MARGAO
The Goa Womens Forum (GWF) on Saturday staged a protest in Margao to highlight the serious problem of cheating of consumers on the price of branded ISI mark helmets and has called for immediate government intervention to stop what it called as a scam involving the defrauding the treasury of 18% GST and collecting 40% extra above the MRP from the consumers.
GWF also filed a complaint at the Margao Town Police Station against a trader on various aspects such as cheating on the MRP, the packaging, the warranty and bill on the sale of the helmet.
“After GWF checked the website of a company, it became evident that the modus operandi used is to bring these helmets in to Goa, the packaging box is removed so that the actual MRP is not known to the consumer, the warranty card destroyed and a duplicate bill book is used to scam the 18% GST and loot the consumer by 40% over the MRP”, claimed GWF Convenor Lorna Fernandes.
