Second meet of new IPB on June 28 to review previously approved projects

The second meeting of the newly reconstituted Investment Promotion Board has been scheduled for June 28 with the only item on the agenda being the review of the projects approved in the previous fourteen meetings of the IPB as was demanded by the Goa Forward Party.

Sources in the government have informed that the review will include previously sanctioned projects that had promised an investment of `11,000 crore besides around 25,000 jobs.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had earlier stressed that a review of projects didn’t necessarily mean reviewing the permissions granted to them, rather it meant that in some cases the present status of the project would be ascertained, while in others, the permissions themselves would be reviewed.
“There will be scrutiny of other four to five cases as well around which there are question marks,” Parrikar said and cautioned, “Reviewing does not mean these would be cancelled.”
The Common Minimum Programme has promised that all cases approved by the Investment Promotion Board would be reviewed
to ensure that they are in tune with the State Investment Policy.
Besides this decisions taken in the final two meetings of the Investment Promotion Board under the previous government suffer from a “legal infirmity” and will have to be reviewed, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who heads the reconstituted board, has said.
“The term of the private members of the IPB was two years and had expired by the time the final two meetings were held, they were not valid members. There is a clear legal infirmity and the minutes cannot be confirmed. At that time it was not noticed by anyone and the meetings were conducted,” Parrikar had said.
